FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why cleaning and airing of home NOT sufficient for formaldehyde removal?
Cleaning and airing out a home are often not sufficient for formaldehyde removal because formaldehyde is continuously emitted from sources like new carpentry, pressed wood products, and synthetic materials, sometimes for up to 15 years. While cleaning can remove surface dust and airing can temporarily reduce the concentration of airborne chemicals, these methods do not address the ongoing release of formaldehyde from these materials. Over time, the levels of formaldehyde can build up again, posing health risks. Effective formaldehyde removal requires specialized treatments that can break down the chemical at its source, providing a more lasting solution. Thus, relying solely on cleaning and airing is inadequate, as it doesn't tackle the root cause of formaldehyde emissions. To ensure a healthier indoor environment, specialized treatments are necessary to effectively break down formaldehyde and prevent its continuous release.
  • How does photo and non-photocatalyst solution help to break down formaldehyde?
Photo and non-photocatalyst solutions work synergistically to break down formaldehyde by employing different mechanisms. The photocatalyst solution, when exposed to light (such as sunlight or artificial light), activates a chemical reaction that generates reactive oxygen species. These reactive species break down formaldehyde molecules into harmless substances like water and carbon dioxide. This process works continuously as long as there is light, ensuring ongoing degradation of formaldehyde in the environment. The non-photocatalyst solution, on the other hand, is effective even in low-light or dark conditions. It works by chemically reacting with formaldehyde, neutralizing it without the need for light activation. This dual approach ensures comprehensive coverage, breaking down formaldehyde in all areas of the home, regardless of lighting conditions, thereby providing a more thorough and lasting reduction of formaldehyde levels.
  • Are the chemical compound safe for kids, elderly and animals?
Yes, the chemical compounds used in both photo and non-photocatalyst solutions are designed to be safe for children, the elderly, and pets. These solutions are formulated to effectively break down formaldehyde into harmless substances, such as water and carbon dioxide, without leaving behind toxic residues. The compounds used are non-toxic and non-irritating, ensuring that the treatment process is safe for all members of the household, including vulnerable groups. This makes them an ideal choice for improving indoor air quality in homes where safety and health are a priority. They have all undergo testing through different chemical and toxicology department to ensure safety levels for humans as well as pets.
  • How long does the coating last?
The effectiveness of photo and non-photocatalyst solutions in breaking down formaldehyde typically lasts for several months to a few years, depending on various factors such as the amount of formaldehyde being emitted, the level of exposure to light, and environmental conditions within the home. The photocatalyst solution continues to work as long as it is exposed to light, providing ongoing protection by breaking down newly released formaldehyde. The non-photocatalyst solution also offers lasting protection, though its effectiveness may diminish over time as it reacts with formaldehyde. Regular reapplication or monitoring may be recommended to maintain optimal indoor air quality, especially in environments with high levels of formaldehyde emissions.
  • How long is the process to do the coating? Is there any down time?
Depending on area, it can take between 1.5 hours to 4 hours inclusive of set up. We recommend to allow the solution to settle down and dry for the next 24 hours and and allow a thorough airing for at least 2-7 days (the longer the better) before moving in if possible.
  • If I am staying in, can i still do this service?
Yes you can as long as all items are removed from the carpentry areas. They should be consolidated in a centralised location so we can provide a covering to cover over your belongings. Best to only put back the items 2 to 7 days later if possible (the longer the better). You can proceed to stay in after 7 hours from the treatment completion time.
  • Can we confirm that the formaldehyde will be totally removed upon application?
No, we cannot guarantee that formaldehyde will be completely removed upon application. While the photo and non-photocatalyst solutions are highly effective in breaking down formaldehyde and significantly reducing its levels, formaldehyde is continuously emitted from various sources in the home, such as new carpentry, pressed wood products, and synthetic materials. Therefore, while the treatment will greatly reduce the presence of formaldehyde, some emissions may persist over time due to these ongoing sources. The goal is to lower the levels to a safer range, but total elimination is not assured, especially if new sources of formaldehyde are introduced into the environment. Regular monitoring and maintenance may be needed to ensure continued effectiveness. What we are sure is that levels will drop significantly and eventually towards safe levels.
